Cinnamon Sliced Chocolate Baklava
I am not sure where exactly I received this recipe ... maybe on a Food network show??
Ingredients:
1 package of phyllo dough, thawed
1 16-ounce bag of mini chocolate chips
16 ounces of almonds, roughly ground
1/2 cup of cinnamon
1/2 cup of sugar
2 teaspoon of cayenne
2 cups of orange juice
1/2 cup of honey
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of ground cloves
1 teaspoon of ground star anise
1 stick of butter, melted
In a saucepan, pour the orange juice, honey, cinnamon and anise and let the mixture reduce by half on medium heat. In a small bowl, mix remaining cinnamon sugar and cayenne.
Place one sheet of phyllo dough in a 9- by 13-inch pan and brush with melted butter. Place another sheet on top of that and repeat until you have used half of the phyllo dough. Then spread chocolate chips and crushed almonds over the phyllo and repeat layering the dough with butter and the cinnamon sugar recipe until your pan is full.
Pour half of the syrup mixture over the dough. Then slice the pan of baklava into desired pieces. Pour the rest of the syrup over the baklava and let rest for 20 minutes to absorb the syrup.
Bake in a 350-degree oven until dark golden brown, approximately 20 minutes.
Serves 10.
